Short Film Idea...

For the last few days, I've been pondering in my head what story I wanted to tell in our short film. I'm aware that by working with other group members, it limits the amount of sovereignty I have over creating this piece, but hopefully our minds could come together to prefect this idea, if not come up with a better idea. For now, this is the story I came up with.

The story focuses around a teenage girl and boy that live in a society where they are not able to come into physical contact with anyone. The government strictly regulates that all personal space is preserved at all times, and operates on a strict system that divides people into four categories based on their social class. These four classes that are ranked from poor to wealthy starting with: the Commons, the Bourgeois, the Titled, and the Nonpareil. Both main characters belong to different classes, and are only allowed to associated with each other.

Through unexpected events, they end up finding each other at a night club where the girl (who is a Bourgeois) is serving the boy (who is a Nonpareil), and they immediately feel a force of gravity towards each other. They meet up in the back of the kitchen later and accidentally bump into each other when plates crash in the kitchen. At that moment, they are immersed in a kaleidoscope of memories reminding them of their relationship they  had a few years back. Scenes of war and catastrophe intertwine with these hallucinations until they suddenly stop.

At that moment, they  are bombarded by government employees and guards blocking every entrance. They reveal the story of when war ultimately destroyed the nation due to selfish and illogical ideologies of mankind. Consequently, human interaction and emotions needed to be eradicated, so they created this mundane system that would keep everyone in place. The boy and the girl threaten to expose the truth, but are suddenly knocked conscious to have their memories erased. The audience then finds out that this is the third time time occurs, and they are the only individuals to ever crack the system. Eventually, life goes back to normal but the boy and the girl manage to find each other once again.

I know this story may seem a bit ambitious with too much content to show in five minutes, but I still think it's an interesting concept. I like the fact that it incorporates several genres that I found interesting while compiling my research, and feel like there are a lot of approaches we can take to tell the story. Now I have to wait and see what Sofia and Paloma say...
