Romance- Has the potential to create a wholesome, cute, story that appeals to people's pathos.
However, it might be difficult to steer clear of cliches.
Comedy- In order to develop a QUALITY sense of humor in the story, the writing has to be clever and the actors have to deliver the punchlines correctly. This seems like it will be a challenge to execute, but if it's done correctly it could be awesome.
Sci-Fi Fantasy- I mentioned this category to Sofia and she did not seem entertained by it AT ALL. Nonetheless, I feel like this genre offers us the ability to create unusual stories that offer a different perspective on how to examine the human condition. In addition, I feel like mis-en-scene will be a crucial component to this genre, which is an element that I love developing during production.
Drama- I find the same problem of steering clear of cliches present in this genre as well. Also, if the actors can't perform the scenes realistically, the piece could end up looking bad.
Animation/Stop Motion- This was a genre that immediately was a definite no from all of us. We recognize the amount of work and dedication that goes into stop motion or animation, and sadly, none of us posses the talents in order to create such work. It would be way to difficult to even try to develop this skill in the limited amount of time we are given.
Horror- We produced a horror trailer earlier in the year, which was very fun to shoot. I find this genre interesting and a good candidate, but part of me feels that a lot of students choose to go this route as well.
Documentary- Obviously this is not a genre we can choose from.
Film Noir- I had to look up examples of these short films because I've never seen one before. It's definitely a cool and unique style, but I'm not motivated to pursue this roue.
Action and Adventure- could be really fun to shoot and produce... a possible option.
Epics/ Historical- Extensive research would be necessary to entail a truthful story. Also, I'm not really a history enthusiast, so unsure of what to make out of this genre.
Evidently, I'm motivated by the Sci-Fi, Horror, and Action genres. Now I have to see if my colleagues agree with these options.
